Trausti Þór Guðmundsson is a very well known rider and a riding teacher. He has been a professional rider for about 25 years. He is a member of FT (the trainers association) and has the education of a trainer and a riding teacher. He was the president of FT for 9 years and was one of the founders of the education system for riders and riding teachers that is now in function in the Hólar College.-
Trausti lives with his family at the farm Kirkjuferjuhjaleiga, close to Selfoss, where he and his family breed and train horses.
Trausti has been a very active competition rider over the years and his biggest moment as a rider was when he had the first and second place in A-group(5 gaits) on Landsmót 1990 with Muni from Ketilsstöðum and Gými from Vindheimum, which the year after won the “Fjórðungsmót” – the second biggest competition in Iceland- 1991 in Hella but in that competition Trausti had 3 horses in the finals, Gýmir, Blakkur and Snúður. The achivements made by Trausti and the horses Gymir and Muni is something no rider can hope to obtain.
As well as training and riding horses, Trausti has for the past 15 years been a popular clinician, and has worked in most of the countries that have Icelandic horses. Trausti gives variou riding clinics,
individual lessons and he has also taught on courses for breeders at the famous College at Hólar.
Trausti likes to work with riders of all skill levels, and also with different themes. Interesting themes are for example:
- · Basic work with the rider, his seat, and how to use the aids.
- · Basic work with the horse.
- · Communication between horse and rider.
- · Preparation for Tölt training.
- · Tölt in different tempos.
- · Exercises that give better result in the gates.
- · Working on the Oval track.
- · Riding competitions.
